Quick Safety Tips by Hazard
Lightning & Thunderstorms
When thunder roars, go indoors. Wait 30 minutes after the last rumble before going back outside. Avoid plumbing and corded electronics.
Tornado Warning
Move to an interior room on the lowest floor. Stay away from windows. If outside, lie flat in a ditch. Do not shelter under a bridge.
Flash Flooding
Turn around, don’t drown. Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down. Never drive through flooded roadways — the pavement may not be there.
Winter Storms
Stay off roads during blizzard conditions. Keep an emergency kit in your car. Watch for frostbite and hypothermia after extended exposure.
Extreme Heat
Never leave children or pets in vehicles. Stay in air-conditioned spaces. Drink water before you feel thirsty. Check on elderly neighbors.
Hurricane Preparedness
Know your evacuation zone (A–F). Have 72 hours of supplies ready. Do not wait for mandatory evacuation orders — leave early for Zone A & B.
